Something a school can try if they feel that a fresh start for the child/young person would be good is a ‘Managed Move’.
These are voluntary, everyone must be in agreement for this to happen and a place of learning cannot threaten permanent exclusion if the parents/young person do not agree.
If a managed move is agreed, then the child/young person will start a trial period at the new school (normally 8 weeks). Before a managed move starts parent/carers will be asked to sign an agreement that set out the conditions of the trial.
During the trial the child/ young person remains on roll at the original school but attends the trial school on a full-time basis.
If the trial works and the school feel they can meet needs then the child/young person will be transferred to their school roll, if it doesn’t work, they will go back to the original school.
