What happens following permanent exclusion?
The Parent/Carer will be sent a letter/email without delay detailing:
· That the child/young person has been permanently excluded
· Why they have been permanently excluded
· Parent/Carers right to put their views in writing to the Governing Body
· Parent/Carers right to attend a meeting with the Governing Body to put your views across in person.
The first five days following a permanent exclusion -
· Schools should take reasonable steps to set and mark work for the first five days of any exclusion.
· During these five days the parent/carer is responsible for the child/young person’s whereabouts. They must make sure the child/young person is not in a public place without reasonable justification during school hours. The parent/carer should be fined if they breach this duty.
Day 6 onwards
The Local Authority has a duty to provide suitable full-time alternative education no later than day 6.
This is likely to be through a pupil referral unit or through online teaching.
For children/young people with an EHCP the alternative education must be able to meet the needs as set out in the EHCP.
